Vermont SportsCar is the creation and vision of veteran rally car builder and former co-driver Lance Smith. Lance got started in rallying by helping American rally legend, and fellow Vermonter, John Buffum during the 1980s and into the early 1990s. At the same time, Lance became involved in classic/exotic car restorations, but his true love was rally and he soon shifted the focus of his business almost exclusively to rally cars.
Smith’s reputation for high-quality craftsmanship and attention to detail in the restoration business became hallmarks of Vermont SportsCar’s rally-car construction business and the company quickly formed a reputation for building the best prepared rally cars in North America. Vermont SportsCar has grown from a small four person operation in the early nineties to a unique bustling motorsports business with over twenty-five full-time employees today.
