CADA began as a small grassroots group of women working out of their homes, raising funds and applying for grants that later led to opening our first shelter on Second Street in Mankato. The renovated shelter had its first occupant on August 3, 1981. This building served as the shelter until August 1, 1997 when CADA moved into its new facility on Stadium Court. The first CADA shelter served 1,751 battered women and 1,088 more battered women have stayed at the new shelter through September, 2006.
