Opened in 1914 for Keith’s Vaudeville circuit, the Lyric is one of few theatres still in existence that was designed to maximize the acoustics and close seating needed for vaudeville shows. The list of stars who performed at the Lyric includes the Marx Brothers, Mae West, Sophie Tucker, Will Rogers and Milton Berle. The Lyric attempted to adapt to the changing climate of show business and become a movie theatre, but eventually fell out of fashion. After decades of dormancy, this sleeping beauty is awakened once more following an $11 million restoration.
