In May of 1967, Florence L. Nixon brought together a small group of family and friends to worship at 8258 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The church’s membership began to grow under the young minister’s pastorate and the church moved to 10159 South Halsted, Chicago, in 1969. In 1979, True Holiness paid off the church. Pastor Nixon died in January of 1984, and the congregation continued under the pastorate of Elder Hiram Jackson, assisted by Elder Legrone.

In 1984, Elder Hiram Jackson became Pastor Jackson, and was installed by Bishop Luther C. Anderson of the Fellowship Alliance Organization. In 1992, True Holiness became a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Organization under the directive of Pastor Jackson. In August of 2004, after 20 years of service, Pastor Jackson retired and Evangelist Yolanda M. Hunt was elected the new pastor. In October of 2004, Evangelist Yolanda M. Hunt was installed as pastor by Bishop Arthur M. Brazier, Diocesan and Horace E. Smith Presiding Bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World.

Under the leadership of Pastor Hunt, the church continues to grow, and new ministries are formed. Of these ministries are the Hiram Jackson Scholarship which offers financial assistance to undergrad & graduate students; a reading and math enrichment tutoring program; adult preparation classes; and is in partnership with World Vision which contribute support to the children of Africa; Have-a-Heart and Project Smiles mentoring and outreach program focused on children within the community.

As the church continues to blossom, the message remains the same. The biblical message of grace, salvation and love is what captures the heart and draw people from every economic background and circumstance. Sunday morning services have expanded into two services and Bible class has been extended to Tuesday morning as well as Wednesday evenings. The network of families has become an extended network that promotes kingdom advancement.

It is because of this advancement, that True Holiness continues to live up to its motto: “Connected to Christ through service; touching the world through ministry.”
