The parish is bordered on the east by the Atchafalaya River, on the west by Evangeline Parish, on the north by Avoyelles Parish and on the south by Acadia, Lafayette and St. Martin parishes. We are only twenty minutes north of Lafayette, one hour west of Baton Rouge, two hours west of New Orleans and four hours east of Houston, Texas.
St. Landry Parish is chiefly prairie, alluvial land, pine flats, wooded swamp and bluff land. The soil is productive and fertile. The total area of the parish is 933 square miles, with about sixty percent being used primarily for agriculture.
