Motor City Builders is a long-time, family-owned business servicing Genesee and surrounding counties in the Mid-Michigan area since 1939.

John Robert Poirier, the first in the family to own the business, served customers for 42 years as the premier home improvement company in the area. In 1979, at the age of just 21, his son, Dave, joined the business as a second generation sales and project manager learning the trade under his father until 1981, when he took over full ownership of then Motor City Home Improvement.

Greg Childers joined the company, serving as sales manager. In 2007, he became co-owner of the business. During that time, Motor City broke ground on its first residential construction project, soon thereafter changing its name to Motor City Builders as it also expanded its services into commercial work.

In 2007, Dave's son, Matthew, became the third generation of Poirier's to join the company. As a graduate of Michigan State University earning a degree in Business Construction Management, Matthew serves as sales and construction manager. He brings a wealth of expertise in CAD design offering customers the opportunity to see their projects on a 3D scale long before work begins.


Motor City Builders specializes in both residential and commercial remodeling and new construction. The company has worked with nearly 20,000 homeowners in the area since its inception, earning its reputation for dependability, quality craftsmanship, and fair pricing with an emphasis on customer service.
