CASA of Jefferson and Gilpin Counties (CASA Jeffco/Gilpin) was formally incorporated in July 2000 in response to the need to improve the representation of abused and neglected children living in Jefferson and Gilpin counties. Our first volunteer class was sworn in February 2001. In that year we served 32 children. By the end of 2010, CASA Jeffco/Gilpin will have served approximately 1000 child victims. Colorado legislation authorizes the creation of CASA Programs statewide, incorporating them into the Colorado Children’s Code (a section of State Statutes) “to enhance the quality of representation of children”. CASA Jeffco/Gilpin is authorized to serve pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding with the 1st Judicial District Courts and the Jefferson County Department of Children, Youth and Families (Human Services). We operate in strict accordance with the guidelines of the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (NCASAA).
