Luyben Music
Welcome to Luyben Music. Luc and the rest of the staff at Luyben's are glad you dropped by. Luyben's is celebrating over 55 years of service to the musical community.
Robert Luyben, began offering his ligatures in 1965 as a sideline to his thriving music store. Luyben, who died in 1993, had studied with Daniel Bonade and was a clarinetist with the Navy Band. He turned down several job offers playing in New York to open a small teaching studio and repair shop in his hometown.

Even as his business grew, Bob devoted his spare time to building better mouthpieces and ligatures. The Luyben plastic ligature was the clarinetist's first real alternative to traditional metal ligatures.

Bob was joined in the business by his wife Annette who managed the finances, and eventually by their daughter Annette, who currently operates the business.

Also important to the functioning of the business is Music Buyer, Don Shoberg, who has been with the Luybens for 50 years. The instrument and accessory department is handled by Rich Coble. All of the employees at Luyben Music are musicians, with different areas of expertise.
