Starting in 1827, a bulk head was constructed in the headwaters of the upper cove and the location was dubbed Cove Landing. Historically, the site was part of the triangle trade and stored lumber, barrel staves, coffin handles and wooden nails, to name a few items. In the 40's and 50's after the wars had been fought, people returned to the idea of pleasure boating and once again it became a cultural destination.
