Alternate ROOTS added a new photo to the album: ROOTS Week 2017 Portraits.
"ROOTS Week is about community building, finding allies in the field, and being reminded that we're not alone. This is a microcosm of the world we want to live in. (S) How can I apply the practice of uprooting racism in my practice as a dance artist, as a teaching artist, and as a through line in my life? (L) We're at a critical time in our history and the South really could be a global leader in how this anti-oppression work happens. (S) More and more is beginning to surface, and the veils are being lifted to the deepest, darkest places of our humanity. ROOTS Week offers tools to cope, and hopefully affect positive change. (L)" - Stephen Clapp & Laura Schandelmeier, Maryland, Dance Box Theater, Inc. *Part of a series of portraits of ROOTers. Documenter: Kassi Dephinia*

Alternate ROOTS added a new photo to the album: ROOTS Week 2017 Portraits.
“This past year I took on a Latino Arts Research project, looking at artists and arts administrators who are working across the field in the City of Chicago and bringing them together, to not just learn about the work they are doing collectively, but also asking questions like; ‘how do we develop a political front? how do we develop an activist front?’ This dialogue puts us in a position to better respond to, what I think, are emergency needs in the United States right now. Here, at ROOTS Week, I’m learning a lot about what’s been happening with a group that has been doing real work for over forty years and continues to grow in the right direction.” - Gibran Villalobos, Chicago *Part of a series of portraits of ROOTers.
