During Black History Month this February, we're celebrating the legacy of blood-banking pioneer Dr. Charles Drew. He was an African-American surgeon who became the medical director of the first Red Cross blood bank in 1941. He is credited with helping save lives during World War II because his research proved that blood could be stored for transfusions.
