Although the building is over 125 years old, it has been completely restored and was opened in 1997 as a Bed and Breakfast Inn. It is a contributing site on the National Register of Historic Places recognized as the Dr. Applegate House. It also was known as Cottage A for the"more retiring guests" the famous Clarendon Hotel in the late 1800's. Guests, today, enjoy the antique decor, full hot breakfasts each morning and common areas that include the parlor, dining room, porch, screened balcony, fireplaces, heart pine floors, transoms and the garden courtyard with screened gazebo. From Memorial Day to Labor Day swimming in the chemical free spring fed pool is open to the public across the street in Spring Park and fishing from the city pier. Some local events include Christmas on Walnut Street, Parade of Trees, Parade of Flags, Jacksonville Winter Series hunter jumper horse show, Scottish Highland Games, Railroad and History Day, Memorial Day Riverfest and EAGALA training.
