URGENT CALL TO ACTION from our Director, President, and Rabbi: Bring your cell phone and charger to call legislators and voice your opposition to the inhumane and counterproductive Executive Order. Our Jewish heritage commands us to remember our ancestors who were refugees and immigrants. Talking points from the International Refugee Committee (IRC) will be available to help you frame your message. If you can volunteer to staff CABI's phone bank, contact Molly O'Shea by email, phone or text to mollyoshea520@gmail.comor 208-863-8384. According to the IRC, here is what the Executive Order proposes to do: Suspend all immigration (including tourists, students, etc.) from Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Yemen for 30 days, with possible few exceptions Suspend all refugee resettlement for 120 days while new processing measures can be considered. After re-start of resettlement, prioritize refugee claims based on religious persecution where a person is a minority religion in their country of nationality (i.e., meant for Christians in Muslim countries, but could leave others trapped in persecution) Suspend resettlement of Syrian refugees indefinitely Reduce the number of refugees resettled to the US from 110,000 to 50,000 in fiscal year 2017, leaving 60,000 vetted refugees stranded Produce a plan on "safe zones" to be set up in Syria. Make your voice heard at any of the phone banks listed above!!!
