Today, 34 years ago, 241 servicemembers were killed in Beirut, Lebanon by a truck carrying 21,000 tons of explosives. The truck drove directly into the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines barracks. We will never forget the sacrifice of our Marines and fellow service members. Semper Fidelis.

The American Legion invites all veterans in the Helena, Mont., area and their family members to a town hall meeting to discuss their VA care. The meeting will be held on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. inside the Lewis and Clark American Legion Post 2, 3095 Villard Avenue, Helena, Mont.

There are 58,318 names etched in the black granite walls of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. And photos of nearly 5,000 of those servicemembers are still needed to complete the Wall of Faces project. American Legion Past Department of New York Auxiliary President Sue Britton, and the entire New York Legion Family, are doing their part to find those missing in their respective state.
The Department of New York is supporting the Wall of Faces project and is challenging other departments to do the same.

During the Fall Meetings in Indianapolis in October, the American Legion National Executive Committee passed a total of 20 resolutions, including Resolution 1, the Reaffirmation for a Strong America.

Anyone with a flagpole – or a plot of grass – can commemorate the 100th anniversary of the United States’ involvement in World War I, and help get a national monument to the conflict built at the same time.
