The Lewis Avenue Baptist Church of Temperance, Michigan, was founded in 1927 by a group of godly Bible believers who pulled out of the Northern Baptist Convention before it was popular to do so, over modernism in the mission boards, on the mission field and in the NBC schools. The battle was waged over the inspiration, inerrancy and authority of the Scriptures. From the very first, Lewis Avenue Baptist Church has stood in the tradition of independent, fundamental Baptist works. Its pastors have always been men of God, dedicated fundamentalists with high standards of belief and conduct.
The church is located on 25 acres in Temperance, Michigan at the Michigan/Ohio border, a suburb of the greater Toledo Metropolitan area.
The buildings comprise 78,000 square feet, including the auditorium, Sunday School building, an educational wing, both an elementary and high school wing and a gymnasium building. An auditorium that seats 1300 was added under Pastor Hobbins’s leadership and a second educational wing will add 58,000 square feet when completed.
The land and buildings are valued in excess of million dollars.
