#DPSfeatures: On April 21, Oakland Elementary School and Westerly Creek Elementary hosted a Light It Up Blue Day in honor of National Autism Awareness Month. As part of the annual event, students wrote positive messages on windows, students and staff wore personalized blue shirts for Autism awareness, classrooms made and decorated puzzle pieces with specials messages on them, community members brought in balloons and doughnuts, classrooms made signs and hung them all over the buildings, staff decorated the gym and hallways with blue ribbons, and students and staff members at both schools simultaneously marched in support of their peers! The message these school communities shared throughout the day was an important one - students are not defined by their abilities or disabilities, but by who they are! #everychildsucceeds

On #CollegeFriday, DPS students and educators were encouraged to support a college-going culture in DPS by wearing apparel from their alma mater or favorite college. #teamDPS educators shared their own perspectives on college with students, and college representatives were invited to speak to students about options to explore. Launched in 2006, #CollegeFriday has continuously gained support across the state — more than 300,000 Coloradans participated in 2016. Check out DPS educators and students rocking their college gear below. #everychildsucceeds #DPScollegebound

Our DPS Weekly: Colorado School Funding: A Political Problem, not an Economic Problem -->…

Our DPS Weekly: As Colorado’s economy continues to thrive, the contrast between our economic growth as a state and our continued cuts to our public education system grows more stark. We are grateful for the fact that we have one of the strongest and fastest-growing economies in the country. Yet, we continue to be among the bottom 10 states in the country in our investment in K-12 education. Read more at the link below. #everychildsucceeds
