After growing up in Seattle and spending countless hours looking north from Vashon Island at Blake Island & Tillicum Village, we finally took the afternoon cruise there from downtown Seattle. I had kind of expected it to be overly touristy, but it wasn’t.
First— the meal was delicious: salmon, stew, wild rice etc., with blackberry cobbler at the end. All traditional NW Native American food and really good. Upon arrival, you receive a hot cup of clams & juice— something I’ve never eaten before, but was tasty. You are encouraged to crush the clam shells on the path — adding to the thousands already there. The salmon is prepared on big stick devices around an open fire (see photos) & was perfect.
After dinner there’s a short show and then we had a while to hike around the island and beach. It didn’t hurt it was a perfect July day on the Sound.
