Camp Horizon At Bay Horizon Park

Lions Camp Horizon is a 501(c)3 non-profit summer camp for adults with developmental disabilities. Our mission is to provide a memorable summer camp experience that offers opportunities that enhance the lives of our campers. We accomplish this by creating a safe environment where our campers can grow as individuals, freely express themselves, and develop their self-confidence.

We offer seven weeklong camp sessions beginning June 25th t – four main weeks offered to individuals aged 14+ of all abilities and three adventure weeks catered to high functioning stay in one of our four dorms with 1-2 roommates. They can participate in arts and crafts, water games, sports, bowling, campfires, dances, Talent Show, the Olympic Games, performances, and more! During adventure weeks we take field trips which in the past have included swimming, canoeing and paddle boating, go-karting, mini golfing, bowling, roller-skating, and hiking.

Our counselors assist campers with all activities throughout the day. They are trained to help with personal care such as showering, toileting, dressing, and transfers; assisting with meals, participation in activities and providing support as needs arise. Our standard staff to camper ratio is 1 counselor for 2-3 campers (1:2 or 1:3). Limited 1:1 staffing on a first-come first-serve basis is available. During adventure weeks all staff to camper ratios are 1:3 or 1:4.

Our nursing staff is on site 24 hours a day to dispense medications, perform first aid, and assist with other medical needs. Each dorm is assigned a Night Watch Counselor who assists campers with personal care during "Lights Out." In the event of illness or a medical emergency, the nursing staff is notified immediately.

We have sponsorships for campers (Camperships) available for those in need of some financial assistance. We believe all applicants should be able to attend camp regardless of their financial situation.
