United Ability was founded in 1948 by a group of concerned citizens who cared about the quality of life for people with disabilities.
United Ability is one of the largest non-profit organizations in Birmingham, serving more than 5,300 infants, children, and adults with disabilities and their families in Birmingham and surrounding counties. Programs and services provided include early intervention, early learning, parent and caregiver training, respite, adult day services, skills training, on-site employment, supported employment, physical medicine and rehabilitation, outpatient therapy, and health and wellness.
United Ability is consistently rated as one of the most financially responsible charities, with 95 cents of every dollar spent directly on programs and services.
