Behind the architectural landmark is a congregation created to give itself away!

Since 1919, the people of Central Lutheran Church have been "in the city for good." The founders said "we are creating this congregation not so much for the sake of its members, but so that they can be of service to the community."

There have been many incarnations of that service over the decades. Today, our service to the city is primarily carried out through the Restoration Center, which provides direct services of several kinds to persons who are homeless or living in poverty. These services include The Free Store and the Monday Community Meal.

In partnership with organizations such as Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness, St. Stephen's Human Services, Heading Home Hennepin and Project Homeless Connect, Central is also working to end homelessness in Minneapolis.

And, there's much more, of course, starting with worship, from which we are called and sent into the world, to music, education, advocacy and a working concept of "shared ministry" through which many are empowered for service through our more than 50 ministry teams.
