Vance County Emergency Operations is made up of two emergency service entities; 911 and Emergency Management. While independent from one another these two organizations are co-located and work hand in hand with each other. Having these two departments integrated together enhances our ability to plan for and respond to critical incidents and disasters.
We have a total of 20 full time and 7 auxiliary employees. This consists of a 2 person Emergency Management staff and a 25 person 911 staff including full time and part time personnel.
Our 911 Center is a consolidated Public Safety Answering Point that provides Enhanced 911 Services to all citizens of the City of Henderson and Vance County. Our 911 Telecommunicators are highly trained, capable individuals with a strong sense of commitment to helping you in your time of need.
Presently, we are constructing a backup 911 center that will essentially be a mirror image of the primary location in both equipment and in capability. The new center will operate in tandem with the main location and will therefore be capable of being utilized at a moment’s notice should the need arise. The center will be online and functioning later on in calendar year 2012.
In addition to providing emergency communications services, our Emergency Management division serves as the coordinating entity during disasters and large scale incidents. We develop plans, coordinate training exercises and promote interagency cooperation to ensure that we are collectively as prepared as possible when disaster strikes.
Our Emergency Operations Center is a state of the art facility that is capable of being fully activated in the event of a disaster in a matter of minutes. Once activated, this facility acts as a central point of coordination for all disaster response and recovery activities. From this location local government, public safety, public health, human services and volunteer agency personnel focus collectively on the needs of the community ensuring a coordinated response and recovery effort.
