It was a great privilege to work with the young leaders of four congregations of the Lutheran church in the eastern part of the country. A joint team from Ascension-Milwaukee and Camp Hope-Houston led a two day training in San Jorge, San Miguel. We trained 27 high school and college age students with the Camp Hope model. Then the trained youth worked an entire week at Camp Hope with 31 children who were applying the strategies and techniques they learned to teach the bible stories. Some of the skills they learned were: communication, biblical knowledge, classroom management, teaching, community building, lesson planning, leading activities, public speaking, team work, and conflict management. The children that attended Camp Hope had a safe and caring place for one week. At Camp they learned about Jesus through stories and how to connect the daily bible stories to their lives at church as well as at their homes. The younger campers also saw the Camp Hope leaders as positive role models. On behalf of the training team and the congregations that participated on Sembrando Esperanza 2017, we want to thank Ascension in Mission – Milwaukee, Camp Hope Houston, Grace Lutheran Church -Thiensville, Ascension Lutheran Church - Waukesha, Greater Milwaukee Synod El Salvador Committee, and Lake Park Lutheran Church.
