Our first patient, a 27-year-old nurse, was admitted on July 1, 1980. Since then, Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter has provided care to more than 20,000 patients and their families throughout southeastern North Carolina.

We serve more than 3,000 patients each year in our hospice and palliative care programs. Our services are available in New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, Brunswick, Bladen, and Columbus counties in North Carolina.

Hospice care helps people with a variety of life-limiting illnesses, including cancer, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), dementias including Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease including congestive heart failure, kidney, liver, and lung disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke.

Most hospice patients are served wherever they live – their home, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. For individuals whose needs cannot be met at home, we offer three inpatient hospice facilities where patients receive round-the-clock, short-term medical and respite care.

Our Dr. Robert Martin Fales Pavilion at the Hospice Care Center is in Wilmington. Our Angel House Hospice Care Center is in Whiteville, and the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick is in Bolivia.

Our palliative care consultation service works with patients and their physicians to improve quality of life, identify and aggressively treat symptoms, clarify a patient’s condition and prognosis, and set achievable goals that honor a patient’s wishes.

For people who need help in dealing with their grief, support services for adults are available to everyone in the community, including family members of hospice patients. Sunrise Kids offers in-school and after-school programs, individual counseling, and summer camps for grieving children.

If you are interested in educational presentations, seminars, and conferences on end-of-life care topics, our Outreach Department can help. If you have questions on advance directives (living wills and health care power of attorney forms) or identifying and choosing health care choices, help is a phone call away.
