Established as a non-profit Community Development Corporation in 1988, Better Housing Coalition has constructed and rehabilitated more than 1,400 high quality, affordable apartments for families and seniors and 160 single-family homes in the Greater Richmond region. All BHC homes are equipped with Energy Star appliances and have been built to EarthCraft standards since 2006.

BHC's Center for Neighborhood Revitalization (formerly the Alliance to Conserve Old Richmond Neighborhoods) promotes the purchase and renovation of vacant andneglected properties, and advocates for the preservation of the cultural and historic assets that give historic neighborhoods their unique character. This division of BHC offers a variety of education programs to the community - including workshops on renovation lending, historic tax credits, and preservation techniques.
