Presque Isle Township Hall

The Presque Isle Township Board of Trustees created the a new Presque Isle Township Parks and Rec. Committee in December of 2009. Within the resolution creating the Committee, it stated that the Committee shall be advisory in nature, having only the power to make recommendations to and advise the Township Board on the subject of the Township’s parks and recreational facilities. The Committee shall not be a "Parks Commission” pursuant to 1905 157, MCL et seq. The Committee shall consist of not fewer than 7 nor more than 9 persons, appointed by the Township Board to 3-year terms, except that for the first 7 appointments to the Committee, three members shall serve terms of 3 years, two members shall serve terms of 2 years, and two members shall serve terms of 1 year. All regular appointments subsequent to the expiration of the initial shortened terms shall be made for terms of three years. Terms shall expire on September 1 of the year in which they are scheduled to end, and individual Committee members shall serve at the pleasure of the Township Board. The Committee membership shall consist of one member of the Township Board as a full voting member, and six citizens at large as full voting members. The term of the Township Board member on the Committee shall be limited by the expiration of his or her term on the Township Board, and in the event that said Committee member loses or resigns his or her seat on the Township Board, the Township Board shall appoint another member of the Township Board to finish the unexpired Committee term. The Committee shall name individual members, subject to the approval of the Township Board, who will be responsible for gathering information and overseeing activities of the Committee relating to the following subjects:
Maintenance
Fundraising
Events
Historic & Environmental Preservation
Tourism
Budget
Property Development
The Committee shall make recommendations to and advise the Township Board on such subjects relating to parks and recreation as the Township Board shall from time to time direct, and the Committee shall make its own recommendations relating to parks and recreation to the Township Board as it shall deem proper. The Committee shall hold regular monthly meetings which shall be open to the public, and may hold special meetings as necessary pursuant to its bylaws, which shall be open to the public.
