Because of the diversity of children served, there are several different Arbor School programs.
The Arbor Pre-School provides intensive early intervention for children ranging from birth to age 5. Many of these children have severe neurological deficits coupled with physical, visual, and cognitive impairment. Others are diagnosed with Down syndrome, genetic or chromosomal disorders, and seizure disorders. Some young children at The Arbor have suspected genetic disorders but no definitive diagnosis. Intensive intervention based in applied behavior analysis permits ongoing measurement and evaluation of each child’s developmental and educational progress.
The Arbor School provides behavior analytically based educational and behavioral intervention for children between the ages of 5 and 18.
The Empowerment Program is especially designed for children with multiple disabilities. Most of the children in the Empowerment Program are non-ambulatory. Programming makes heavy use of augmentative technology to allow functional communication. Assistive technology is also used to provide children with a means of operating devices in the environment such as toys or computers.
The Challenge Program is an intensive, behavior analytically based program for children with autistic-spectrum and related disorders. The Challenge Program was started in 2005 in order to respond to the increased numbers of children diagnosed with autistic-spectrum disorders and parents seeking intensive treatment services for their children.
The Challenge Program focuses on language and communication, behavioral self-management, social and cognitive skills and academic skills for those children demonstrating academic readiness. Some children in the Challenge Program also participate in mainstream classes at a private school near The Arbor.
Arbor Rehab is a division of The Arbor School providing speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational children to Arbor students and children in the community. Arbor Rehab is staffed by highly experienced, licensed pediatric therapists. The cost of therapies is paid through insurance.
