PlaceWorks, formerly known as The Planning Center|DC&E, was founded in 1975 as a private consulting firm devoted to developing viable, imaginative planning solutions to the physical, social, economic, and environmental challenges that arise from urbanization.
In 2006, PlaceWorks acquired the Los Angeles–based Meredith and Associates, founded in 1981. M&A brought significant technical depth to the firm with its wide range of scientific, engineering, and regulatory services, especially those concerning the effects of hazardous materials and wastes on human health and the environment. This core of scientists and engineers became the firm’s Los Angeles office and now functions as the Environmental Science and Engineering (ES&E) Group.
The combined company has over 100 employees in six offices, and serves both public- and private-sector clients in the fields of environmental review, environmental science and engineering, comprehensive planning, and landscape architecture. PlaceWorks believes that the best planning reflects the community it serves and works in concert with the surrounding natural environment.
