The City of Walker has a new Community Resource Officer, meet Officer Mitch Harkema! Officer Harkema has been with the Walker Police Department since January of 2015. He graduated from Hudsonville High School in 2005 and worked as a restaurant manager before pursuing a career in law enforcement. He graduated from the Grand Rapids Community College Police Academy in the fall of 2014. He was recently selected to replace former CRO Shannon VanderHeuvel, who retired at the end of March 2017. Officer Harkema will be working with staff at all schools located within the city to ensure a safe environment for students to have a positive school experience. Please do not be alarmed if you see him more often around the schools. Interaction with students and staff is one of his chief objectives!
