Winner of the "Best Tasting Water In Kansas" award, WaterOne is the largest water utility in Kansas; 15% of Kansas residents are WaterOne customers.
We've grown from humble beginnings. In 1957, unsatisfied with the value and service from their water provider, local residents came together to buy out the Kansas City Suburban Water Company. They reincorporated it as independent, public utility WaterOne (Water District No. 1 of Johnson County).
WaterOne is led by a seven-member Governing Board, elected at-large by the residents of the service area. Our award-winning tap water is proudly produced by our dedicated employees through a multi-barrier treatment process, drawing water from the Kansas and Missouri Rivers.
WaterOne is unique in the Kansas City area for having the opportunity and foresight to invest in dual water sources. Redundant sources sustainably ensure an ample, reliable supply of fresh water to our customers every day of the year.
WaterOne is certified a Platinum Level utility for excellence in utility management by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies. We believe in the meaningful work of producing clean water because water touches everything we care about - family, health, safety, and community.
