Bear Creek Lock & Safe shared Medford Police's photo.
We've had 19 cars stolen so far this month and its only the 11th! Where its happening? Out of the 19 cases, the locations were all over the city, 8 in E. Medford and 11 in West Medford. 11 stolen cars have already been recovered, almost all in Jackson County. 2 suspects have been arrested. What types of vehicles? The types of vehicles are also all over the place, both new and old. The only common vehicle is the older Honda sedan (2 cases). How are they doing it? Based on the varied locations and types of vehicles, this is simply a crime of opportunity. Nine vehicles had the keys left inside, some left running. The remaining were unknown, but the suspect either found a key, or in the case of the older Hondas, used a shaved key. How to prevent it? Don't leave the car running unattended (we know, cutting edge advice here). Don't leave a "spare" key inside or in an obvious "hide-a-key" spot. Don't own an older Honda (kidding) Park in well lit area Don't allow your keys to be easily taken (stolen from home, purse, etc) Lock up your car The point is these criminals are out there all day, every day. Drugs give them one heck of a strong work ethic. Don't make it easy for them. Thanks for reading. And yes, Officer Meador wears sunglasses in the rain.
