Congratulations to our Juniors, who kicked some butt and picked up some hardware at the Central Youth Championships 2k sprints this weekend. ARC fielded 18 line-ups and raced in 16 events, each of which started with a morning time-trial qualifier from which the top six boats then moved on to race for medals in the afternoon final. ARC had 13 boats advance to the finals, and four of them brought home medals. Here's the rundown:
The ARC Girls' Novice 8+, JV 4+, Varsity 4+, Novice 4+, JV 8+, and Varsity 8+ all made it to the finals, and the Novice 8+ then held its own against powerhouse home-team champ, OKC Riversport, and snagged a silver after opening up a comfortable lead on local rival TRC.
On the boys' side, ARC's Lightweight 4+, Novice 4x, JV 4x, Novice 4+, Novice 8+, Lightweight 2x, and JV 4+ all advanced to the finals as well, with the JV quad's crushing its own qualifying time to edge out St. Mark's for the silver, and the lightweight boys' scoring a pair of bronze medals--the first in a fast-and-furious battle against two light-fours from Parati and two from OKC; and the second in another close race against some lean-and-mean doubles, including two from the silver-medal Parati four. Way to go ARC!
