It’s been 51 days since SB 1 was passed. We can’t wait any longer. The General Assembly has until Monday at 12:00 p.m. to get it on my desk, or I will call a special session.

The General Assembly needs to send me SB 1 right now. I will act immediately to make necessary changes so all children in Illinois get the education they deserve. TRANSCRIPT: Hi everybody, We need your help. Please call your local state legislator and ask him or her to send me the education funding bill. They’ve been sitting on it since May. If that bill doesn’t get to my desk, public schools across Illinois may not open in time for the new school year. Once I get the bill – I will make important changes to ensure that all students in Illinois get the education they deserve, regardless of their zip code. The point of this school reform bill is to ensure every child in Illinois, including kids in Chicago, get the education they deserve. What we’re not here to do is bailout CPS’s mismanaged teacher pension system at the expense of every other child in the state. We must put Illinois school kids first – not a pension bailout for Chicago. This must be about making sure all students in Illinois get the education they deserve no matter where they live. We need you to reach out to your local lawmakers and ask them to send me the bill so that we can enact historic education reform, and make sure schools open on time. Once they do that, I will act quickly to make changes to ensure the bill sends as much education money as possible to all our school districts across the state. Together, we can put Illinois students first. I look forward to working with you to get our schools open on time.

I am honored to stand with the Drury and Nawara families to sign Charlie’s Law today. This bill will require all medical insurers to cover the treatment of PANDAS. Families will never have to worry about getting their child treatment for PANDAS and can focus on providing them love and support.

I’m calling on the General Assembly to send SB 1 to my desk immediately for my review. We have the chance to make sure that all districts in Illinois receive equitable and adequate funding. Once I receive SB 1, I will amend the bill to remove bailout of CPS's broken teacher pension system.

It's a privilege to be a part of the 39th annual summer fair in Chinatown. Without a doubt, our Chinatown is the best in the nation. It’s booming and growing year after year.
