Historic Lincoln Park District border includes US Hwy 1 to 29th Street; Avenue B to Avenue E. Lincoln Park includes approximately the northern half of Fort Pierce. Most of the area is within the city limits, but neighborhoods in the immediate vicinity in the unincorporated ares of the county share similar characteristics and opportunities. The most recognizable district is the commercial corridor along Avenue D. This area is among the oldest parts of the City, and it is a designated historic district. Some of the earliest subdivisions platted in Fort Pierce are in the eastern end of the Avenue D district.
Historically, Lincoln Park has been the heart of the African American community. Several significant landmarks are located at prominent sites: the Lincoln Theatre, the Lincoln Park Academy, many historic churches and popular restaurants.
In 1996, the City of Fort Pierce sponsored a charrette for the area. As a result of the charrette recommendations several significant projects were implemented, among them were construction of the Willie B. Ellis Police Substation; Granny's Kitchen; reconstruction of Moore's Creek; road restructuring and paving; replacement of water mains and sewer lines; and our current office location the Jackie L. Caynon Sr. Building, across from the police substation.
