Founded in 1965 in the Heart of Kent Valley by Jim Plemmons. Plemmons Industries has 10 plus family members actively involved in each facet of the business. After a swimming career in college, Jim decided it was time to make his mark. An opportunity arose to work for a mortgage company that paid per account closed. The mortgage company swiftly notified him that his commissions were exceeding his Director and that the team was upset. It was recommended to him to strike out as his own boss, and Plemmons Industries became the brainchild of that suggestion. With his vast financial housing knowledge that largest profit appeared to be building single family homes. The company was formed primarily as a residential construction firm, either selling or retaining and leasing single family homes. As the residential division grew and grew the need for a small OFFICE space was needed. Yet, in the early 70's there were no small offices for lease.
Thus Plemmons Industrial Park was born. A mixed-use BUSINESS PARK that would allow small businesses a place to set up shop. The Park houses a variety of scalible spaces starting with a small 175 sq/ft spanning all the way to 10,000 sq/ft WAREHOUSES.
A need for Industrial Parks evolved with the Kent Valley. Kent is now the Largest INDUSTRIAL Area per concentrated square foot, in the state of Washington.
Kent boasts a diverse economic base. Manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, professional services and retail companies are all located here. This includes a growing number of large and well-known companies, like: The Boeing Company’s Integrated Defense Systems, WCP Solutions, Mikron Industries, Oberto Sausage Company, Starbucks Roasting Plant, and Recreation Equipment, Inc. (REI).
The Kent Valley is home to a growing volume of Class-A wired office space. The Kent Valley is the 2nd largest industrial park on the West Coast; 5th in the nation. It is the 3rd largest distribution/warehouse area after New York/New Jersey and LA, and the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma are the 3rd largest container hub in the nation.
Agriculture product shipped via rail to ports through the Kent Valley exceeds 122,000 cars annually. Each car equals 91 metric tons. Connected to greater Puget Sound via Interstate 5 and five other state highways, Kent’s location has helped turn it into South King County’s commercial hub. The Sounder Commuter Rail also serves Kent, moving commuters conveniently and efficiently.
Kent always being the home base of all divisions of the company, our location at Central Park 10, has remained since the 80's. As several of the Plemmons's children have taken different divisions on, the portfolio continues to grow. The next generation of Plemmons are building Mini-Storage facilities, Micro Housing and expanding into Construction Yards and R/V Parking. Plemmons Industries continues with its' entrepreneurial spirit with Jim still at the helm. The Plemmons family will continue to "House Futures and Dreams" in the Greater Seattle Area as well as expanding divisions out of state.
