HISTORY In 1992, a group of forward thinking local citizens wanted to establish a “community savings account,” which was permitted and encouraged under Michigan law. In November 1994, the Otsego County Community Foundation was incorporated. In order to obtain help with the management and operations of the new organization, they chose to become an affiliate of the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation in 1995. As the Foundation grew, it prepared to become an independent organization. In April 2002, the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation recognized that the Otsego County Community Foundation had fulfilled all requirements to become independent and self-governing. In July 2002, all assets were placed into a separate account, and the Otsego County Community Foundation was certified by the State of Michigan Department of Treasury. Over the years, the Otsego County Community Foundation has worked to provide essential funding to enhance the quality of life in our community. We are here to do good work—forever.
