Burton Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc

Our history dates back to 1811 when David Burton arrived in Erie to help build Perry's fleet for the war of 1812. Burton, one of David's ten children, founded the first Burton Funeral Home in 1876. Harry and Ramsay Burton, following in their father's profession, instituted many changes as the city grew. It was during this period that the funeral home was relocated to 352 West Eighth Street, where it was well known for many years.

Donald C. Burton, the third generation, planned, developed, and instituted many meaningful changes which modernized funeral service and set new patterns for the future. His desire for high ideals and developed services established sound policies which still guide our firm today.

The fourth generation was represented by G. David Burton who became president of the firm in 1964 at the death of his father. He was dedicated to carrying on the tradition of his forefathers. Now, we are pleased to have a fifth generation serving the community: Peter J. Burton, and Karen Burton Horstman, They are passionate to continue the tradition of providing caring, quality service to every family.

We have now served our community for over a century and a quarter. From generation to generation, we have served families from all walks of life, all financial circumstances, and all religions - according to their individual wishes. Our years of experience have prepared us to meet the needs of the people of our community, today and in the years to come.
