Glencoe United Methodist Church

OUR GUIDING BIBLE STORIES:
1. Call of Samuel (1 Samuel 3) –
a) Glencoe is a small church hearing the call of God in a growing world that is deaf to the same call.
b) We mentor our young people to hear that call the way Eli mentored Samuel.
c) Both Eli and Samuel confronted the brutal facts, but not without hope. (Stockdale Paradox)

2. Hebrews 12 (Great Cloud of Witnesses)-
a) The Book of Hebrews and Glencoe have standard bearers of faith in our history
b) We must have the DISCIPLINE to maintain the faith of the saints.
c) Those saints will not rescue us from the future. We are the saints of the future.

3. Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13) –
a) Glencoe has a history of agriculture.
b) God is a careless sowers who sows seeds of the gospel in strange and sometimes
c) We are called to sow the seeds and pray that God will give the growth. Have you seen the fruit?

4. The Book of Ruth
a) CHESED- acts of loving kindness that are beyond reason or expectation.
b) Ruth was the least likely person to save Naomi, a gentile woman! Glencoe is full of Naomi’s that the world considers insignificant, but God has use for them.

5. Mary and Martha (Luke 8) –
a) Martha was a very hard worker, but her hard work was preventing her from doing what was most important. (Sitting at the feet of Jesus)
b) God does not want us to be a busy church. He wants us to be a faithful church.
