Adding flavor to the pot of living options for people with developmental disabilities comes Community Options, Incorporated (COI), a Family Home Agency (FHA).COI provides services to adults with developmental disabilities 18 years of age and older. COI has expertise and resources to create nurturing living arrangements where a person with a disability can become a full participating family member in a private home.
COI recruits, trains, supports, monitors, certifies quality homes, and provides financial reimbursement to experienced providers who meet qualification standards. Many have referred to this services as being similar to traditional foster family services, however, it is much more than that. Services and support to the consumer and family home providers are customized to meet individual needs and circumstances. Through team efforts and professional consultation, COI is able to develop living options with success in mind.
COI has created services for consumers out of the desire for more natural home-like settings in the community. Special legislation was developed towards the development of FHAs. COI was the first FHA developed in the State of California.
