Heritage: Alvernia celebrated its 50th year by being awarded university status in 2008. Founded by the Bernardine Sisters, a Catholic religious order, the university embraces the Franciscan core values of service, humility, collegiality, contemplation, and peacemaking.
Enrollment: With about 3,000 students, a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio and average class size of less than 20, Alvernia is the perfect place to develop and thrive.
Campus: The 121-acre main campus in historic Berks County is three miles from the heart of Reading, Pennsylvania. There are two satellite centers in Philadelphia and Pottsville (Schuylkill County).
Financial Aid: About 99% of undergraduates receive some type of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study.
Faculty: Our professors are actively engaged in their fields of study through scholarly research and direct professional experience.
Student Activities: More than 55 student groups, including intramural and intercollegiate sports, academic clubs, honor societies, student government, and faith-based, arts, environmental, and service clubs.
Housing: 9 residence halls including traditional halls, suite-style apartments, townhouses, and apartment-style halls.
