Forest City is in Hancock and Winnebago Counties. It is in the state of Iowa, and the county seat of Winnebago County. The population was 4,151 in the 2010 census.

Forest City claims to be the smallest city in the United States with its own YMCA, thanks to the benevolence of John K. and Luise V. Hanson.
