The headquarters of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library are located at the Monett Branch Library. Barry and Lawrence Counties were the first two Missouri library cooperatives to form a consolidated library district under the state statute that officially authorized such in 1972. On July 18, 1973, the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library District was created as a new governmental unit. Tax dollars from the two counties are the primary source of income.
Ten communities comprise the district: Aurora, Cassville, Eagle Rock, Marionville, Miller, Monett, Mt. Vernon, Pierce City, Purdy, and Shell Knob. Regional headquarters house the Technical Processing Center, where all library materials are ordered and cataloged for the ten branches. Van delivery service to branches in the two-county area originates from Monett.
