Athens Nurses Clinic was feeling thankful.
WELCOME TO THE NETWORK!
WWG always strives to increase fresh, local food access for families all across Georgia. That is why we’re excited to work with 14 new partners this year! These partners allow us to reach families in new parts of the state, like Dodge County, Sylvester, and Zebulon. We are grateful for your support that makes it possible for our programs to grow.
Morehouse School of Medicine and the Athens Nurses Clinic are joining our network of healthcare partners that operate our Fruit & Vegetable Prescription Program.
These farmers markets and farms are joining our network of partners that match SNAP/Food Stamp benefits to make fresh, local food more accessible to low-income Georgians.

What this will mean is that the Clinic is collaborating with the SNAP Educators, Dr Jenn Thompson and her team from the University of Georgia and the Athens Farmers Market--40-60 of our patients will be participating in a program which provides them with prescriptions for free fruits and vegetables from the Athens Farmers Market. $1 per person in the household per day. So a family of four gets $28 week in free fruits and vegetables. And the Farmers Market doubles SNAP (food stamps), so the individual can take $10 off their EBT card, and $20 in tokens to purchase fresh bread, meats or more vegetables. In return, the patients come in monthly for a SNAP Food Talks class and to have biometrics measured. This is a tremendous program made possible by donations to Wholesome Waves. Our own Hugh Atchison from The National and Five & Ten is a sponsor of this program also! So if you see us shopping, stop and say hello!
