Luling was established in 1874 as the far western stop of the Sunset Branch of the Southern Pacific Railroad, but that all changed on August 9th, 1922 when Edgar B. Davis' Rafael Rios opened an oilfield 12 miles long and 2 miles wide. The Rios No. 1was one of the most significant fields discovered in the Southwest and subsequently gave us our nickname, "Oil City". Luling is known world-wide for its mouth watering bar-b-que, agriculture, Zedler Mill, the annual Watermelon Thump, and now Texas’ First inland Paddling Trail! Luling Texas is located just off I-10, near US Hwy 183 - I-10 interchange. Luling is south of Austin and east of San Antonio with the neighboring municipalities of San Marcos, Seguin, Lockhart and Gonzales. Located within easy driving distance of San Antonio, Austin and Houston, come see what Luling Texas has to offer!
