Hickory Hills is a member owned and operated private golf club. It was formed when 14 men, united by their love of golf, set out to build their own golf course from scratch. These 14 men were able to locate a prime piece of land, sell memberships to raise capital, and build the course and clubhouse. One of these 14 men was Jack Kidwell, a renowned golf course architect.
When Jack Kidwell saw the property, he stated, "This course will be 125 years mature when we get done." The property has beautiful mature trees and was only cleared to put in greens, fairways, and tees. Wildlife preserves were included so that the existing wildlife would stay and enhance the golf experience. The property is adjacent to metropolitan park property and there is no housing or condominiums associated with the course. We have a quiet surrounding with rolling hills, winding streams and wildlife. What a better place to play a relaxing round of golf.
The membership of 350 was filled before the course dedication in May 1979. Normal turnover creates opening each year for new members.
The golf course was carved out of 181 acres of magnificent, aged woodland and open meadows. It has several meandering streams, five lakes, and rolling terrain. Its natural beauty can easily be compared with the best in central Ohio. The fairways are bentgrass and have double row irrigation so that playing conditions are good. When we do get a lot of rain, the course drains well and is very rarely closed for play.
