Bellefonte Church of Christ
In 1934, people began to move from Bass in Newton County to Bellefonte. They were all members of the Church of Christ. There was a small Church of Christ in Harrison on South Pine, later moving to Central and Cherry where the people from Bellefonte attended for some twelve years. By this time there were several families living in and around Bellefonte.

In 1948 a decision was made to start a Church of Christ in Bellefonte. Two of the members, Bertie and Mattie Young, owned a building in Bellefonte that had been built for a garage, which they agreed to sell. John L. Bolin, Arthur Dodson and Shinn Tennyson were appointed Board of Trustees.

Albert Dillard from Bergman preached the first sermon for the Bellefonte congregation on April 18, 1948. Those in attendance at this time were: Lee Dickey family, Loma Dodson family, Bertie Young family, Arthur Dodson family, John Bolin family, Shinn Tennyson family, Byrom McCutcheon family, Hiram McCutcheon family, James Dickey family, Bill Salmon family, Sallie Hamilton, Edd Mahan family, Kenneth Greenhaw family, Dodson family, Tom Bolin family, Earl Salmon family and possibly others.

Presently, Ray Crawford serves as evangelist; Joe Collins, Dale Crunkleton Mike Middleton, and Billy Pyle serve as elders; and Bobby Evans, Billy Ed Hefley, Mike Middleton & Buzz Toland serve as deacons.
