In 1943, the Pentagon is completed, rationing for WWII limited meat, butter and cheese availability, the Jitterbug was the most popular dance, and Joe Namath, Mick Jagger, and George Harrison were all born. Another event was also unfolding in Mercer County, and that was the creation of the Mercer County Housing Authority. Originally, the Housing Authority began as a result of a housing shortage for workers needed during the war years. The first development was a185 unit trailer community.
