The life of the church is best described as Gottesdienst (the service of God). While the term often refers to worship, it can be broader than that. More importantly, it is ambiguous: Is it the service which we render to God? Or the service God renders to us? Our answer: Both!

On one hand, our life as a congregation is completely dependent upon what God does for (and to) us. His Word (which is both preached and taught), his sacraments, his absolution, and his holy conversation are means of grace which he gives to us despite ourselves. We are, in short, victims of his grace. We are, by his grace, freed from our past and redeemed for his future.

We are not only redeemed, we are also regenerated by Christ's Holy Spirit who warms our otherwise cold hearts in such a way that God becomes the proper object of our affections, and it thus becomes our delight to experience in this life a foretaste of the holiness in store for us in his kingdom.

St. Paul partners with the Lutheran Campus Ministry at WVU to provide a Lutheran witness in the greater Morgantown metropolitan area.
