When two young CPAs left the security of a “Big Eight” accounting firm in 1983 during an economic recession and hung a shingle on a small office in West Knoxville, any thoughts they had about a future anniversary were probably about making it to the first one.
Over thirty years later, Ed Pershing and Doug Yoakley lead the nation’s 10th largest privately held healthcare consulting firm and an Inside Public Accounting 2016 Top 100 Accounting Firm. The firm has grown from three people in that first office to more than 250 at what is now Pershing Yoakley & Associates and the five affiliate companies that came later.
