We started our posts this month celebrating National Facial Protection Month so as it is coming to an end, we would like to remind our patients who play sports one more time that it is very important to wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth and mouth from injuries. Be sure to ask us about the best mouth guard options for your active lifestyle and for your braces. We will be glad to advise you! Also, always wear a helmet when participating in contact sports or bike riding.

Today is National Zucchini Bread Day! So, of course, we wanted to share a great braces-friendly recipe for this delicious treat! Ingredients: • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg • 2 teaspoons baking soda • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 3 cups sugar • 1 cup vegetable oil • 4 eggs, beaten • 1/3 cup water • 2 cups grated zucchini • 1 teaspoon lemon juice • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional or chop extremely fine) Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. 2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, nutmeg, baking soda, cinnamon and sugar. 3. In a separate bowl, combine oil, eggs, water, zucchini and lemon juice. 4. Mix wet ingredients into dry, add nuts and fold in. 5. Bake in 2 standard loaf pans, sprayed with nonstick spray, for 1 hour, or until a tester comes out clean. Alternately, bake in 5 mini loaf pans for about 45 minutes. www.foodnetwork.com

Braces are not magnetized because they are made of non-magnetic material. Even if you are getting traditional metal braces and brackets which may look very similar to some of the braces your parents might have worn, you won’t experience any issues when it comes to magnets. All of the materials used in today’s modern orthodontics are nonmagnetic in nature and therefore of no concern when it comes to magnetic forces. So the only thing magnetic will be your beautiful smile!
