The Cahaba River Society (CRS) is one of Alabama’s largest watershed conservation organizations and is recognized nationally for river stewardship. CRS’s mission is to restore and protect the Cahaba River watershed and its rich diversity of life. This diversity includes not only the river’s diverse freshwater life, but also the diverse people of central Alabama who rely on the Cahaba for clean, low-cost drinking water. We emphasize education and consensus-building among all interests. Combining expertise in the science of river ecosystems with a practical understanding of the forces of urban growth and development, we build partnerships to increase the resources brought to bear on river problems. We encourage people to take responsibility for the environment in their own backyard.
